Rainbow Collection

The whole semester of baking macarons has finally led up to this: a rainbow macaron collection! It took so much time, with me baking till the last minute and then sprinting to class on my bike, and many many hours of whipping egg whites, folding batter, piping circles (of different sizes :S), matching similarly sized macaron cookies and finally placing them delicately into clear plastic boxes. But it all paid off! I love how the colors look when they are all placed side by side!

Flavor wise, most of them turned out well and I especially liked the White Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache filling that I used in the white colored macaron. I must say that I was excited about making mango buttercream, but the result was really disappointing because it wasn't strong enough.

Thanks everyone who supported the Cornell Women's Water Polo team at our final bake sale! We will be heading to Florida next week to compete at Nationals!

If you bought some macarons, I would appreciate it if you could leave some feedback by clicking on the 'Feedback' tab at the top. Thanks!

Easter Bake Sale

For Easter, I conducted a second water polo fundraiser bake sale with chocolate, lavender and rose macarons. I'm getting the hang of making large batches of macarons, though making 200+ of these took me maybe about 8h!

The lavender macarons were meant to be blue.. but the coloring turned out greenish instead. I feel that lavender is an acquired taste, and I made it a tad too strong because I was having a stuffed nose and couldn't smell anything much when I was baking.

Thanks everyone for supporting the team once again! For the next and final bake sale, I'll be presenting a set of 8 rainbow colored macarons!

Lemon Curd & Cream Cheese Macarons

Lemon Macarons ready for pick-up on Monday, 20 Feb.
Quantity is very limited and only available in boxes of 4.
Click on the Orders tab to place your order.

I experimented with the sucre cuit, or cooked sugar, method of making macarons over the weekend. This method involves making a sugar syrup for an Italian meringue and is supposed to produce more consistent results. Mine, however, were sub-par and so I reverted back to the regular blanc monte method for these lemon macarons. Practice makes perfect, will try sucre cuit again next time!

Thank you!

Thanks everyone who supported the Cornell Women's Water Polo team at our first macaron and bake sale. We were all sold out by early Tuesday morning, which just goes to show that it pays to pre-order! Anyway I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed the rose macarons. If you liked them, and especially if you didn't, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share your thoughts by clicking on the Feedback tab at the top, or by leaving a comment below. I'd love to hear from you because your feedback will help improve my baking!

If you did not manage to buy any macarons this time, don't fret because we will be coming back again soon with different macaron flavors! I'm thinking of having a citrus theme - mango and lemon curd macarons anyone? Exciting! Be sure to subscribe via email (on the right sidebar) so that you can receive updates on the next macaron sale.

Welcome

Welcome to my macaron blog! I have recently taken on the challenge of making French macarons, the elegant and delicate little treats that are so notoriously hard to perfect. Unlike the more familiar coconut macaroon here in the United States, the French macaron is a cookie made of egg whites and almond flour. The Parisian macaron chain, Ladurée, popularized the macaron by sandwiching two cookies with a flavored filling to get what some people now associate with sheer bliss.

I wouldn't pay $2.70 just for a Laduree macaron (and wait in line omg), which is why I'm making them myself. They sure are pretty to look at and photograph!
